Context & challenges

The Sines LNG terminal, located on Portugal’s Atlantic coast 120 km south of Lisbon, entered service in 2004. Thanks to its privileged deep-water location with direct access to the Atlantic, Sines became a strategic hub for LNG reception.

Technical challenges & responses

  • Deep-water port: integration within the industrial port area.
  • European standards: design compliant with EN 1473 and BS 7777.
  • International consortium: Entrepose–Tractebel–Somague collaboration.
