The arrival of the first LNG carrier marked a historic moment for the LNG Canada project. This inaugural cargo initiated...
Material selection, welding procedures and quality controls must be considered together. They need to meet applicable standards and contractual requirements while taking fabrication and construction conditions into account.
Sébastien sums up his role as follows: “I select materials and implement welding and quality control strategies to ensure compliance with standards and contractual requirements, while providing corrosion protection for reliable, durable installations.”
His remit includes defining specifications, approving welding procedures, organising non-destructive testing and managing corrosion protection. Non-destructive testing makes it possible to examine components and assemblies without damaging them.
This expertise is brought into projects from the tender stage and continues throughout execution. According to Sébastien, one of the main ways to influence costs is to define optimised execution strategies. Technical preparation must therefore incorporate constructability: the ability to build the structures under the planned conditions.
The department works closely with tank and structural engineering, procurement, subcontracting, prefabrication, construction and quality teams. It also supports tendering and project controls and, where relevant, research and development. Sébastien works with Entrepose Industries and site teams as well.
This cross-functional role involves regular discussions with the Project Manager, Project Controls Manager and Quality Manager, as well as a client inspector. It requires an understanding of each discipline’s constraints and the ability to provide well-founded technical responses.
Quality control therefore also relies on rigorous document management: compliance evidence must be available, accurate and verifiable.
A materials engineer by training, Sébastien went on to qualify as an International Welding Engineer (IWE®). He joined Entrepose Contracting directly after graduating and was then assigned abroad as a welding engineer on a project involving liquefied natural gas (LNG) and condensate tanks.
After returning to engineering following two years working on offshore projects, he became a Structural Design Coordinator in the Tanks Department before taking on responsibility for his current department.
This varied career has shaped an approach built on rigour and openness towards other disciplines. His advice to candidates is to learn how to say “no” and explain why, while also being willing to say “I don’t know”, carry out the necessary research and state when the answer will be available.

Purchasing equipment, arranging inspections, preparing transport and contracting construction work all form part of the same procurement chain at Entrepose Contracting. Caroline Bazin, Projects Procurement Director, explains how her teams meet project requirements through supplier selection, negotiation and the anticipation of supply risks.

Following the launch of detailed engineering, the 4th LNG tank construction project at a Northern European LNG Terminal moves into its construction phase. In November 2023, Entrepose Contracting begins foundation and slab works — the physical anchoring of the future LNG tank into the ground
