Work done and added value of our solution

Project Context & Objectives

The Skikda complex is one of Sonatrach’s flagship liquefaction hubs, fed by Hassi R’mel gas. The New Liquefaction Train expansion required additional LNG and LPG storage/export capacity to support higher production, ship loading regularity, and supply resilience to Mediterranean and European markets. The tank package’s objective was to add cryogenic and refrigerated storage and integrate it safely inside an already operating liquefaction site.

Technical Highlights

  • Full-containment technology for all three tanks:
    • Inner tanks in 9% Ni steel (cryogenic compatibility for LNG; refrigerated service for LPG),
    • Outer post‑tensioned reinforced concrete containment,
    • Suspended deck/insulation systems, cryogenic penetrations, roof appurtenances, and relief systems designed per international codes and Owner specs.
  • Integration within a live plant: Plot-plan constraints, hazardous area classification, tie-ins to BOG systems, product transfer lines to jetty/loading, and existing utilities required careful phasing and interface control.
  • Local capacity building: Mobilization and training of Algerian workforce and vendors to meet schedule and QA/QC requirements.

Execution & Contracting Approach

  • EPC Consortium: Entrepose Contracting as lead, with civil/structural synergies from VINCI Construction Grands Projets and contributions from ORASCOM. The package covered design, procurement, construction, pre‑commissioning/commissioning assistance and system handover.
  • Interfaces: Coordinated with the liquefaction train, BOG handling, utilities, and marine/export systems under the owner’s program. (Tender/reference dossiers on our side consistently list the Skikda scope as 1 LNG + 2 LPG tanks, aligning with the built configuration.)

Key Figures & Outcomes

  • Total storage added: ~282,400 m³ (150,000 m³ LNG + 2 × 66,200 m³ LPG).
  • Schedule: Delivered over 48 months within a congested brownfield environment.
  • Impact: Increased storage & export capacity for LNG/LPG at Skikda, supporting Algeria’s export reliability.
